Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in Uganda, including the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. With the country's tropical climate and abundant rainfall, mosquito populations thrive, posing a significant risk of mosquito-borne diseases to both wildlife and humans in the area.

Year round mosquito forecast

Malaria is the most prevalent mosquito-borne disease in Uganda, with hundreds of thousands of cases reported each year. Other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes in the country include dengue fever, yellow fever, and Zika virus. These diseases can have serious health consequences and require proactive measures to prevent transmission.

At the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, efforts are made to control mosquito populations and minimize the risk of disease transmission. This includes regular monitoring of mosquito populations, implementing mosquito control measures such as insecticide-treated bed nets, and raising awareness about the importance of personal protection against mosquito bites.
