Mosquitoes are not a significant issue in Ireland, particularly on Achill Island. The temperate climate and lack of standing water prevent the widespread presence of mosquitoes in the region.
While there are some species of mosquitoes in Ireland, they are not known to transmit serious diseases to humans. The main annoyance they cause is through their itchy bites, rather than the spread of infectious diseases.
In recent years, there has been an increase in the presence of invasive mosquito species in Europe, such as the Asian tiger mosquito. However, these species have not been established in Ireland and are not a concern for residents or visitors to Achill Island.
