Mosquitoes are a common issue in Eritrea, particularly in the coastal city of Massawa. The hot and humid climate in this region provides the perfect breeding ground for these pesky insects. Mosquitoes are not only a nuisance, but they also pose a serious health risk due to the prevalence of mosquito-borne diseases in the area.
One of the most common mosquito-borne diseases in Eritrea, including Massawa, is malaria. Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. The symptoms of malaria can range from mild to severe, and if left untreated, it can be fatal.
In addition to malaria, dengue fever is another mosquito-borne disease that poses a threat in Eritrea, including Massawa. Dengue fever is caused by a virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti. Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, and in severe cases, it can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can be life-threatening.
